A contemporary rear extension to a semi-detached villa, creating a bright sitting, dining and kitchen space with seamless connection to the garden.

The generous villa was let down by a small galley kitchen to the rear and limited access to the garden. Working with our client, a young family, we formed a light filled living, eating room. Accessed from the centre of the house through an oversized pocket sliding door, the room frames views of the garden whilst illuminating the kitchen and dining table from above. Large sliding doors blur the threshold between the room and garden. Attached to the neighbouring outshoot, the extension flows from a pitched roof to a flat roof utilising materiality that blends in with the existing house and surrounding context.

An extension providing an inclusive space for everyday life, enabling the young family to connect to the garden.
