A contemporary extension to an Edwardian dwelling weaved into the house plan creating a split level living space with a focus on the garden and golf course.

Working with our ambitious Client, we looked to form a sympathetic addition to their period property that creates a larger kitchen and dining space as well as a sitting area with access and views to the garden. With the extensive rear garden at a lower level to the ground floor of the home, our clients were cut-off from experiencing full use of the outdoor space. The split level brings the family closer to the garden whilst also remaining connected to the existing dwelling. To offset the distinctive style characteristic of the Edwardian period, a contemporary extension of stone, glass and metal quietly respects the original dwelling.

Large social spaces are formed, capturing views within the extension through a simple glazed elevation facing out towards the garden. The space is lit by a large central cupola along with windows to two other parts of the garden. Within the existing part of the home the former kitchen has become the dining space which has been positively altered with a Juliet balcony as well as a new opening providing a new aspect to the space.

A contemporary, airy extension comprising a simple palette of respectful materials forming entertainment spaces over split levels connecting the dwelling to the garden. Further works were carried out to the basement level where the floor has been lowered locally with new sympathetic openings added to form an additional bedroom for the visiting family to the house. As a period property, original features were retained and repaired, and any lost were reinstated.
