Alterations that elegantly connect two floors of a period property with a beautifully crafted staircase providing light living, kitchen and dining spaces.

Owning the basement level apartment of a Georgian townhouse, our Client approached us when the ground floor apartment became available with ambition to connect their existing property to that above to provide an entertainment level with additional living space as well as a larger kitchen with dining space. With both properties being A-listed, the proposals required to be sympathetic with a focus on retaining, repairing and reinstating existing features and details.

The internal staircase was proposed centrally to the property within storage spaces to retain the original proportions of the principal rooms. Crafted from oak, the bespoke staircase acts as a focal point to the property as one enters from the new ground floor access point with the landing linking the front and rear rooms through doors opening flush with the wall. Light spills between both principal rooms along with the central staircase.

A sympathetic unification of two properties with a focus on high quality craftsmanship and materials.
