A modern side extension to an existing villa in a prominent position in Murrayfield extending the ground floor living space whilst being respectful to the surrounding area.

Although in an elevated position our Client’s existing living areas were disconnected from the views afforded at the front of the home. Sympathetic to the stepping down nature of the existing villas, the infill extension subtly integrates with the streetscape providing our Client a unified living space that boasts exceptional views of the City and Pentland Hills whilst receiving light deep into the plan. Consisting largely of stone, that is harmonious with the character of the area, the extension introduces high levels of glazing and aluminium that presents a high-quality extension to the street. At lower ground floor level a gym space has been formed as well as a wine cellar located underneath the existing house but accessed off the extension.

The considerate flat roof volume expresses a contemporary intervention forming a cohesive layout to the home which strengthens the relationship between house and landscape.
